Prenatal Massage

Learn prenatal massage at IKRA!

Our prenatal massage course is specifically tailored to help massage therapists understand and address the different physiological changes undergone during pregnancy. Prenatal massage helps relieve pain (lower back, sciatica, neck, legs, shoulders, etc.), relaxes the muscles especially used during the months of pregnancy, and reduces psychological stress.

This course will equip the student with various techniques used in prenatal massage as well as indications and counter-indications. The student will also learn to adapt the massage manoeuvres learned in our Swedish Massage I course.

FAQ about our prenatal massage course

Find all the answers to the most frequently asked questions by prospective students of our massage therapy school in Montreal.

Why is it necessary to complete the Swedish Massage I course first?

Our pregnancy massage course is a particularly sensitive program that requires knowledge and application of best practices.

Before you begin your training in this course, it is essential that you have taken and completed our Swedish Massage I training. Once you have received your certification, you will have acquired the necessary foundation to approach the techniques in the prenatal massage course.

Who is the prenatal massage course for?

Our prenatal massage course is primarily intended for massage therapists who wish to deepen their knowledge of advanced therapeutic techniques.

As mentioned above, completion of the Swedish Massage I course is a prerequisite for enrollment in this program. For students who wish to begin their training as a massage therapist and become progressively familiar with the basic massage techniques, our introductory courses and workshops are open to all and are offered in French and English.

Consult our massage programs page to discover all of our massage courses.

What are the benefits of prenatal massage?

Students and massage therapists come away from our prenatal massage course equipped with the knowledge to answer various pregnancy-related questions, including the benefits of a prenatal massage.

Prenatal massage helps to deeply relax the muscles and improve blood and lymphatic circulation. In addition, a massage for those who are pregnant helps with the assimilation and digestion of food, while releasing toxins from the body of the future parent.

What are the contraindications linked to prenatal massage?

Another topic covered in this course is the contraindications to prenatal massage. Although prenatal massage does not generally have any particular contraindications, it can pose risks for people with medical conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and others.

In addition, this type of massage is not recommended for people who have previously suffered a miscarriage. Before making an appointment for a prenatal massage, you may wish to advise the expectant parent to consult with their physician.
